I don’t often find poetry in every day life. In fact, people who do that annoy me. But this really struck me. The seeming battle between the storm and the peace, between darkness and light.
My recovery has mirrored this battle. Fighting the darkness with light. Keeping the storm at bay while hanging onto the rays of hope. Still seeing the sunlight through the gray clouds. Knowing the sun is there, even when you can’t see it.
I’ve still been rained on in my recovery. I won’t ever be on a straight path from beginning to fully recovered. In fact, such a path exists for no one. Recovery is finding the hope in the hopeless, feeling the peace in the midst of the storm, and battling the darkness while there is still light in you. That’s life, actually.
Learning to cope, learning to forgive, learning to start over, and learning to love yourself. No one does these things perfectly; but some of us need way more help than others. Some of us need to recover the damage done to us before we can do these things. Some of us will take longer to develop these skills.
But all that matters is that we stay on our path to recovery. Even when the storm comes. Especially when the storm comes.
Yes, a glimpse of light has more power than months of being under clouds.
