For those who already know what this is, you might be laughing at how rudimentary my skills are. For those who don’t know, let me tell you: this is JavaScript. A programming language that involves writing the code you see on the left to create the picture you see on the right.
I worked really hard just to get that picture. I didn’t understand triangle vertices, which hurt me when I was trying to make those slightly uneven, totally imperfect triangles in the orange slice. It was really frustrating and I thought I would never get it close to what I wanted.
And that squash? Doesn’t look how I want it too. In fact, it started off as a banana, but I couldn’t quite play around with it enough to make it a banana. So squash it is for the time being.
I worked really hard to get this picture. Much harder than I feel it should have taken me. But I learned, I practiced, and I worked hard until I got a result I was proud of.
The original picture I submitted for evaluation was just a pile of grapes and an upside down “ice cream cone”. I didn’t screen shot that, but I should have. The cone was ridiculous. Because I didn’t understand how to create triangles! So I was determined to do it until I understood them.
Maybe this won’t win any prizes or impress any experts, but I pushed myself to accomplish something that took extra effort on my part. It took practice and failure and frustration. But I still did it!
My recovery is slipping. My summer has been full of work and my son and bad decisions. I tell you though: learning and doing and accomplishing things makes me feel a hundred times better. It makes me think that if I can conquer JavaScript, I can do just about anything.
